BBC members will get access to a new forum called Technology and Basketball beginning in September 2011. Why? Well, recruiting is changing! Did you know, for example, that college coaches can sit in the comfort of their living room and watch your recruiting video(s) by simply using their “Direct TV” remote control? Wow! This is another step forward in 21stcentury recruiting.
Point and Click Recruiting
If you have Direct TV with a receiver that is connected to your home network , try this: on your DTV remote press MENU, then select “Smart Search” and search for “BBC Game of the Week”. After the search, select “BBC Game of the Week – You Tube” and you will be presented with a long list of videos to choose from! You can even select “More from (The BBC).…” and see a longer list of BBC videos. Imagine that; all the coach needs is a remote control to watch YOU play on the “big screen”!
This is way cool. But, how can you make YOUR videos easy for coaches to find?

The BBC is proud to introduce our initial recruiting combine which will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011 in Houston, Texas. This combine is the product of over five years of research, interviews and experience with the process of collegiate basketball recruiting. Our goal is to ensure that players and parents have the information, direction, exposure opportunities, web tools and resources that they need to take their recruiting project to the next level!
The Synergy of Web Tools and BBC Combines
In conjunction with the combine, we are also releasing new tools for players, coaches and to support the combine skill metrics. We are merging the latest technology and focused basketball combines to produce products that meet the recruiting needs of players, parents and coaches. The idea is to collect essential basketball data, skill metrics and competition electronically and empower players and parents to place it all at the fingertips of college coaches. We help players to effectively expose themselves to the world and then show them how to motivate coaches, scouts and fans to “follow” their progress. Welcome to 21st century recruiting!
Several new and updated recruiting tools for players will be unveiled at the combine. These include a College Locater, a Core Course Tracking System, BBC Social Link, and the latest updates to the See Me Play tool. New tools for college coaches will enable easy player location, research and tracking.
Bringing Value To the Recruiting Process
We do not stutter when we say that BBC membership and combines are simply the best values in recruiting! Our core staff consists of parents who are driven to help other parents and players. Our mission is to help players elevate their exposure, prepare for college and get recruited! We have been there! We understand the challenges and stress of the recruiting process!
We have designed these combines so that after one focused day players will have what they need to take control and manage a successful recruiting project. Families could spend hundreds or much more, to have a professional recruiting service do this, or they can attend a BBC Combine and learn the secrets, get the tools, and take control of the process with confidence.

The Basketball Connection (The BBC) is proud to welcome James Giles, a 6’ 9”, senior center from Arkansas Tech University (ATU )to our family of ‘Campus Life’ writers! James graduated from ATU in December 2010, and is continuing to play basketball while pursuing his Master’s degree. James is a native of New Brunswick, New Jersey.
In December, I traveled to Arkansas and one of my goals was to locate a NCAA Division II player that could be a solid contributor to “Campus Life”. I found that player at a party thrown for some ATU grads... While putting down some serious Razorback Bar-B-Q, I ‘found’ James! At the time, Mr. Giles was thanking people who helped him to make it ‘through ‘at Tech. The thanks included the presentation of a certificate (from James) to a local pastor who “made a stranger feel at home’. How many young men do you know who would take the time and effort to do that? My only thought was, “will he do it?” Well, this article answers that question.
BBC Recruiting Principle #1: Surround your player with the BEST people possible
This principle applies to our Campus Life writers. Good character helps to build bridges that will support you later in life. James played ball at Allen Technical College (ATC) before arriving at Arkansas Tech. Here is a character test; what DO the ATC people HAVE TO saY about James? The Dad wanted to know. Well, here is what I found at www.atc.edu/p393.aspx:
Former ATC Knight James Giles, who helped lead ATC to the national tournament in 2007, is now leading another team to success on the court. Currently attending Arkansas Tech University, Giles is helping his new teammates to an impressive 25-0 record. The ATU Wonder Boys are, at press time, currently ranked at number one in the NABC Coaches Poll, Division II, and have been for six consecutive weeks.
ATC Head Coach Bruce Capers said, "I have never played with or coached a man who had such a work ethic. It is not a surprise to me that he is a leader on an undefeated team." Coach added that Giles, a 6'9", 265-lb. center, has had inquiries to play professional basketball in Spain. [Read entire article]

The BBC has released a redesigned basketball game chart. The new design now features a portrait layout, a legend area and can be created with a “College’ or ‘High School/Middle School’ court diagram. The charts are also pre-aligned for printing on 3-hole punch paper stock. Game charts are now produced in the PDF format, and can be instantly emailed to you or directly to the person who will be charting your game (if necessary).
The BBC is excited about releasing these improved charts for our member players as we continue to find new ways to help you to elevate your exposure, prepare for college and get recruited. Watch for the release of other new features of See Me Play over the next couple of weeks!
To learn more about how and why basketball players should be charted, see this article.

If you want to give Jr. (my term for your BB player) an edge in recruiting, you need to utilize player development resources and effectively market Jr. to college coaches. "Charting" used with "See Me Play!" (SMP) from The BBC is a cost-effective and easy way to do both. Charting a game allows you to quickly gather stats, provide your player with a development resource and also helps keep official scorers honest. Totals from a game chart can be added to SMP and published to the world in seconds!
In this article I will share how easy it is to “chart” a player by reviewing a game chart that I made for Carl Culberson (St. Pius X HS, Class of 2012, Houston, TX) for his St. Pius vs. St. John’s game on December 7, 2010. So, let's get started with some charting basics.
